I am excited to announce the publication of our latest paper, "From founding voices to future visions: languages and literacies in science education," in the International Journal of Science Education. This paper marks a new milestone for our Special Interest Group (SIG) on Languages and Literacies in Science Education under the European Science Education Research Association (ESERA).

Over recent decades, the focus on languages and literacies in science education has grown. Our paper highlights this development by reflecting on the diverse theoretical and methodological perspectives that have enriched our understanding of the multilingual and multimodal nature of learning processes in science.

Building on insights from a recent SIG meeting in Copenhagen, we present viewpoints from four founding members of the SIG, discussing current trends, challenges, and visions for the future. This paper invites our global community to join the conversation about the role of languages and literacies in contemporary science education and shape the future of the field.
